The house is called Split Void. As a horizontal extension, the project uses the stair void to bring additional light into a narrow lot. The existing two-story, one-family building was completely renovated. The primary living spaces are located on the ground floor and extend outward to an exterior deck. The finished cellar serves as an off-season living area and a third space for children. The new stair, designed as a light well, creates a comfortable void that marks the transition from the entry to the private bedrooms above. Daylighting is also carefully introduced into the bedrooms, while the off-season spaces require no additional heating or cooling. Contractor information available upon request.
